Soar the Skies
At some point in our lives, most of us have wished we could fly, but modern day science hasn't yet invented a personal mechanical strap-on set of wings that'll let us soar the skies. Skydiving is the closest we've come to actually fly, but what about the people that don't have an aeroplane to jump out of? The ultimate fly-like-a-bird sport of paragliding.
Paragliding is an adventure flying sport in which the pilot glides through the air with the help of a free-flying foot-launched aircraft. Paragliding is easier, more convenient and less expensive when compared to other adventure sports. The pilot takes control of the canopy and flies beneath the wing which is hung on a harness. You may now be wondering, “Paragliding is cool, but it's not something you can do in India”, au contraire, there are a plethora of places where you can paraglide, without it putting a dent in your wallet.
Where you can glide
One of the most popular hill stations in the country, Manali is also known for the possibilities it offers to paraglide enthusiasts. Besides the breath-taking landscape, Manali has some great slopes such as those of the Solang Valley, which facilitate a perfect take-off.
Kamshet is yet another beautiful place to experience the paragliding in India. Located in the Pune district of Maharashtra, it is approximately 100 km from Mumbai and 50 km from Pune city.
Vagamon is a quaint hill station in Kerala surrounded by some of the most beautiful scenery and offers various adventurous sports, paragliding being one of the most famous. Moreover, it is one of the most beautiful places where you can go for paragliding in India.
Paragliding basically requires a good sense of judgement. The most important points to keep in mind during the training session, are to listen to all instructions given and use safety equipment and helmets. Although most institutions use the best equipment for training purposes, make sure you get your equipment checked before taking flight.
In case you are using your own equipment, make sure to keep it in the best condition possible. Check the wing and replace it before it becomes dangerous and non-functional. The harness and reserve of the paraglider can last you a lifetime if you take proper care.
Paragliding schools will be able to provide you with an Internationally recognized APPI (Association Of Professional Pilots and Instructors) Pilot License after completing your certification.
